Yeah, I like Pages a lot as well. And numbers, surprisingly.

I'm still not sure about the new iPhoto. I wish it didn't default to Events.

Personally I really like the events feature. Especially the ease of merging them. Of course it still features the annoying "revert" feature that wastes a crap load of space on my computer (if I rotate the photo or take out redeye you dont have to save a copy of it for me. Beleive me, I wont be going back).

Still though I'm really happy with it!

Hmm... I could have sworn that when I opened iPhoto yesterday it opened into events and when I was done exporting it went to events. That was what I was complaining about but it seems to not be doing that now. Perhaps I'm just going mad (nice day for it).

I actually like it applying changed to a new copy while leaving the original untouched. It's as close as you can get to a negative with most digital cameras. It would be nice if there was an option to turn it off for folks like yourself that dislike it.

I'm going to download the trial version of iLife to see if it is worth the upgrade. I bought iWorks thought and am LOVING it...

I don't believe that there is a trial for iLife. If there is, I haven't seen it yet.

If there is, could you post a link to it?

    There isn't.

I like the new iPhoto. However, forcing my pictures into events is redundant. I think the concept is great, but as it stands I don't see it being any different than an album. For example, I already have an album for my miscellaneous pictures. Why do I need to duplicate that effort into a miscellaneous event? I think albums should be replaced by events, or make events optional.

I agree. I've already got my photos organized the way I want them. Others might need/want events; I don't. Having the option to turn it off would be great.

You all are looking at this from the point of view of someone who knows the product. Take a look from the point of view of someone just joining the Macintosh world. My parents don't understand smart folders. When they start using the new iPhoto to work with their photos, it's going to be great for them to not have to group pictures by hand.

Also, I have had iPhoto for over a year (the older one of course), and I haven't had the chance to make albums for the 5,000+ images I had in it from when I switched to Mac from Windows. Now, I don't have to worry about it. What surprised me even more was that a lot of the events had names. I'm guessing that some of the pictures I had from before had some identifying data that allowed it to name the events.

I had SOOO little work to do to merge/split the events that iPhoto had created that it only took about 20 minutes to finish what iPhoto had started. I'm very pleased!

Stupid question, but can I store all of my photos/videos on an external hard drive and iPhoto will still have the same features? Or do they have to be stored on the Mac's internal hard drive to get these organizational options?

@Vesper: I'm not saying get rid of events or even turn it off by default. I just wish there was a way for those of us that have our own system to turn it off.

@mcconnell: I don't have my iPhoto library on another drive but I do have it in a different directory than /Users/<my user>/Pictures and it works fine. You can define where it stores its library by holding down Option while double-clicking on iPhoto and choosing Create New Library.

@Vesper: Event's aren't smart folders. Plus, I have an easy 2000+ pictures. After upgrading, I had ~20 "Untitled Events" that I had to sort through for 2 hours. For me, I would've preferred to just look at my Library, Cmd+click specific photos, and then right-click to put them into an Event, if I wanted to use that feature. I agree it's easy for a new person who is just starting with this new version, but let's be honest, what is the ratio of new users to veteran users? I'm not going to cut slack for any company that doesn't take current users into consideration when they release a new and upgraded product. IMO, iPhoto has always been easy to use, so the "new user" argument, IMO, is pointless.
