Has anyone thought about pownce security? I'm thinking it may be more secure than email, the message isn't bouncing around lots of servers?

Will Kevin give up your messages when the Feds come banging on the door ? Or will he fight them off with Ninja Stars ?

The only thing I can think of is that it's built on Adobe AIR, which is in beta.

true, but the router isn't making copies for people to find later (unlike a mail server) !

so all someone needs to get pertinent infos is just one centralized server. regarding security of data while in transit..im not so sure if it have a secured version as with meebo or pibb or gmail

On both services your password is sent in the clear, so all someone really needs to do is sniff your password at a hotspot, hotel, etc, and your Pownce is pwned.

though what i like about pownce is its private notes but the lack of sms keeps me with jaiku.

Pownce more secure then E-Mail? I dont think so, beside the reason Leo mentioned (which can happen with E-Mail if you are at a hotspot and reading E-Mail) also with Pownce you are signing your life away with its ToS.
While E-Mail might bounce off a few other servers on its way, its not being put in to control by any one person or site and to get the information someone will have to track down those servers and get them. And if your running your own server, you dont have any messy ToS issues and so on that you might find with having gmail hosting your mail. The big whole there is the person receiving the E-Mail. But the best way to secure your E-Mail, get GPG and encrypt them.

I'm sure the client could be made to support secure login, so passwords aren't sent in the clear. Maybe also some public key encryption for private messages.
