Gotta say.. Pownce leaves me unimpressed. It's purty, but would someone enlighten me as to what it brings to the table? Genuinely curious.

Groups and Files/Events do it for me. Imagine having a group of coworkers (or group of friends) at your company and you want to send them a file/event/link.. quite easy with Pownce. For me it means I can have a group of german people and send only them my german notes. So it's also some sort of groupware.

I guess being able to send files directly and being able to group your friends is cool.

Don't get me wrong. I get the features. I just think it seems like every feature has a superior equivalent already out there. I guess bringing it all together counts for something, but why not make a mashup shell-service where subscribers to twitter/jaiku, backpack, flickr, tumblr could simultaneously get all those services in the purty Pownce interface? That would rock.

I agree. There is no huge "aha" moment for me with Pownce. In Jaiku I see excellent aggregation and RSS support, and twitter is microblogging for purists. I guess Pownce is a beta framework at this stage. Time will tell...

if aggregation of services would be that easy.. guess we need more standards or at least openid everywhere. maybe a concept first ;-)

well, I also haven't had that great Aha moment with Jaiku ;-) Of course importing RSS feeds is nice but also clutters your timeline more. And I am never using all those mobile interfaces anyway due to cost. Microformat support in Pownce is actually also nice but maybe useless at the moment ;-) (not hard to do anyway).

@MrTopf: All the more reason such a service would be the killer app, no? ;) Sadly I also usually hang on twitter rather than jaiku, mainly because the twitter RSS feed is less cluttered for making li'l flash apps. :)

well, I am looking forward to see these interoperability rumours between all those sites to become reality.. and maybe some good filtering ;-)

It will be interesting to see if Jaiku can add groups and file-sharing features quickly ! If they can then why pownce ? Jaiku are already miles ahead in mobile support, feeds, api. channels and customisation. All Jaiku needs to do is create a private, invite only channel feature to jump ahead of pownce groups.

Twitter seems to want to stay feature 'lite' and many of the ones they do have create problems (how do you follow 'the conversation' when replies are such a mess in the stream ?). Features are important, that's why people use Jaiku rather than twitter.

I totally agree. I haven't touched my account since I created it. Seems like a watered down FaceBook with file transfers.

One feature that Jaiku could easily add is a few weblinks under your picture so you could add your linkedin, facebook, homepage etc ... Jaiku doesn't need to be yet another facebook !

i don't get it at all. and i've struggled to convince less geeky friends to join jaiku/twitter and largely failed so pretty much giving up on this from the get-go. plus having 2 randoms want to be my friend before I've even posted anything is a little odd. So if anyone wants an invite let me know ;)
