So does the arrival of Pownce mean everybody is going to abandon Jaiku? :(

I will always be a Jaiku "girl".

jaiku all the way... not very impressed with pownce other than sending files to multiple peoples.

I can see its advantages but I think that means I have to use both now sigh

lol. I don't want to abandon jaiku.

Pownce doesn't do a lot of the things Jaiku does.

    Sticking to both..

I think its apples and oranges. Pownce, even with the ability to share links, files, and events, feels like it lacks a lot of the features that makes Jaiku so solid. We'll see. I have a Twitter, Jaiku, and Pownce account and still I prefer Jaiku.

@dturnbull: Possibly right about the Kevin Rose effect but I really am enjoying it. I agree with DuaneBrown, I think I'll use it along with jaiku and abandon Twitter

I'm going to stick with Jaiku. I'm sure they'll add any new functionality we might need over time.

I think it's too early to tell. How many of us have only been on Pownce for a week or less now? For me, Pownce needs a few things. Better RSS support is the big one. If the sets and filters of Pownce supported RSS and Pownce could aggregate feeds like Jaiku or Tumblr does and I could direct those incoming feeds to specific sets then it would be more attractive for me. The second big one is IM and mobile support. I'm frankly not using the mobile features of Jaiku but hope to one day. FOr now though I do like quickly posing from IM.

So I'm holding on to Pownce for a while. But at the moment Jaiku rules!

Not unless they allow me to aggregate my presence in some way. Right now my primary use of pownce is really for the file transfer ... just checking it out yet tho.

I'm staying, for various reasons, not the least of which are #jaiku and #devku: Jaiku seems to know how to be 'social' (as in, responsive to the society) in the middle of this social media stuff. Yes, Pownce has some nice features, but the people behind Jaiku are clever and open enough to recognize them and to tell you that, not to mention tell you that they're working to make Jaiku even better. And as far as scaling goes... wow, this place seems seamless (hoping not to jinx anything! Yipes!).

We must remember that Pownce is still being developed and Jaiku has been here for a while now. There is much more to see from the people at Pownce and frankly it does need more if it is going to compete with Jaiku.

I agree with the apples and oranges comment... Pownce doesn't feel like a Jaiku replacement. Now Jaiku, for me, was a Twitter replacement... easy. But Pownce is kind of like the halfway point between Jaiku and AIM, to be honest... or maybe I should say, it's actually more like old-school ICQ (which I haven't used in years, so don't know what it's like these days) than AIM.

In any case, I like it, and I'm cool with using both.

But is there a way to minimize the application to the system tray? I haven't seen an option for it; I hope they include it soon.

It made me stop using Twitter. So now I'm Jaikuing and Pownceing. =P If Pownce develops the mobile features, and someone updates the Facebook Pownce application to modify inject your stream to the mini-feed like the Jaiku app does, I'll probably switch all the way.

I feel like I belong to too many things. There are too many places to get messages or speak with people. There's more of a chance of missing someone. I've become a big fan of twitku so I can see and write to friends on twittwer AND do jaiku. There's also a mobile twitku but I haven't checked that out.

A competitor like Pownce can make Jaiku better.

I think Jaiku should learn from Pownce and offer additional post types: music, video, photos, events, links. Of course the storage requirements would go up, but I'd pay for a pro account to get things like that.

And Pownce allows me to filter comments off the front page - something I've been begging Jaiku for for months.

And the ability to target posts is very cool, but that's a structural feature that may be hard for Jaiku to incorporate.

I use both - for different purposes. Jaiku is more for telling everyone what you're up to, whereas pownce is more for sending stuff to your friends (as they so say on the front page).

Does anyone have any Pownce invites? I am curious to check it out.

Today is really my first day on Pownce, but so far I really like it. Right now I'm doubling up between Jaiku and Pownce...

I can send you an invite send email to descolines@gmail.com

I am torn. I signed up for a pro account on Pownce, but honestly I am starting to see it as some cyber popularity contest. Iv already dumped several "friends" who have well over 500 in there network and are sending out extremely trivial info.

I see the potential in being able to share resources with people who you need to share with, but when I would hope a system like pownce, or even Jaiku, could be used to get answers and help to things.

I will say that so far I have received more helpful information from Jaiku than Pownce. But your millage may be different.

I have a few I can send out as well... Email to iflyjet at gmail

The frenzy to switch has begun again. I had Tubes (Yahoo) running for a while to send files around and then location updates with Dopplr. Jaiku has made simple updates easy with the Google gadget. I think finding that ubiquitous client will take the pressure from users like us to make it happen (or develop your own and enter the shark infested waters)

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. I'll continue to use both. Pownce has hooked me and I'm not sure why.

  • chronodin

Jaiku is for announcing stuff to everyone. Pownce allows you to be more specific with whom you send stuff to.

I don't think so. Each services have another good aspect.

Pownce is cool, but so far I dont like it as much as Jaiku. I think I like pownce alot for getting messages DIRECTLY to friends and such - but Jaiku is good to just make posts anyone could read and so on. Jaiku is more like a "friend networking" app and Jaiku a "social/public networking" app to me. I'll stick with both (but I think its safe to say I've kissed twitter Goodbye).

Jaiku = GREAT mobile application -with GOOD desktop feel ... Pownce = not for mobile- don't see how anyway- interesting features but very-very sluggish for me ... PS- they need some help from the django gurus. Hope they ask ... Twitter = it is like so last year :)

  • jrhitterman

I don't think jaiku is going to be foregotten the way twiter has been any time soon. Honestly how many people here switched from twitter to jaiku and who uses both?

2 years, 4 months ago by jrhitterman

  • LEMills

I haven't opened twitter in ages, although I do send the "Linda + friends" feed to Jaiku so I can keep track of the people who still post there (and send comments about their tweets back to them through Jaiku). I'm just now thinking about this and assuming that this commenting function does get back to them, but I should check it out myself. Perhaps I'm being too subtle.

twitter and jaiku .. for the person who asked who uses both. Namely because I wanna update from the road, but I don't wanna be limited to a smal subset of phones. (S60 not even Symbian) whose UI's I find .. time consuming.

I haven't tried Pownce yet (would love and invite if anyone has one!), but If it's like Jaiku I'll be happy. I like it because of it's feed aggregation services. I just tell my parents to check Jaiku to see everything I'm up to on the internet. I also like the fact that you don't have to be a jaiku member to see what is on it.

2 years, 4 months ago by jaderobbin

  • ZayneHumphrey

I'll use both. Jaiku for updating, and Pownce for some updating and more for it's email/IM functionality. I still say that Pownce might become more of a Instant Messenger "killer" than Jaiku "killer." Or the Jaiku team could combine with the Pownce team and then we would only have to decide between what the name might be.

  • danhendricks

Personally... i'm kinda happier on twitter than either of them.

  • jrhitterman

why do you like twitter more

2 years, 4 months ago by jrhitterman

  • omaregan

I still use Twitter because of all the neat ways you can easily post stuff up there, from my Treo, from my IM client, etc. Pownce seems like a completely different beast at this time, but it has great potential... But I think Jaiku is still the best for aggregating all my stuff onto a single feed.
