Just listened to the Ed Bott thing. I must say, between that guy and Thurrott (who I usually like), Leo was the only sane voice in the room!

Consumers might not care about ideology, but that doesn't make it a good thing! Look what people not caring about politics has done to the world: Iraq, Nazi Germany... Leo is right: Sometimes, the consumer needs a good whack over the head. DRM might generally work, still, it's fundamentally flawed and in the longrun bad for everybody!

Still for Microsoft, at the very core there exist two options: provide a way for HD content to play on Vista or not. If this was Apple we wouldn't be having this discussion. It would be another mac/pc ad where the mac would explain that he doesn't need powerdvd ultra, and leo would be having fun with it on MBW with Scott Bourne having an orgasm all over the feature.

Want some strong DRM ? Try ripping Garden State (or most sony dvds for that matter) to your HD. We tried dvdshrink/ anydvd/ dvdfabdecrypter/ clonedvd/ dvd43+nero on it and we couldn't FREAKING RIP IT !!! For the record we wanted to see how it would look on my cellphone, but got carried away in the process.
