Trust me, this is essentially the same as not having it at all. I had to hard reset and rebuild the Treo. What totally shocks me is that the iPhone which has been on the market for just about 5 seconds has GMail IMAP support before the first smartphone ever. Versamail does MS Exchange push email, .Mac's IMAP and all the POP's under the sun but try and get GMail IMAP to work and it blows up in your face. I suspect it's not real IMAP like the it's not real POP.
I am not sure which IMAP protocol they are supporting even after reading the GMail IMAP help section: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?topic=12760, which I must admit is pretty complete.
But after reviewing the list of supported devices and applications the plight of the Treo seems bleak.
I have the Treo 755p. Here is what I have discovered.
The imap on the 755p works much better in versamail than it did with pop. (I know, not saying much). However I did have to increase the Maximum message size (500kb) and only get mail from the last 3 days. There doesn't appear to be any push as Versamail is not supported with G-Mail (yet). There is some hope that it will be soon. It is pulling the new messages, but if you delete on versamail, it is not deleting them on the server.
There is a program called Chatter (http://chatteremail.com) and people in the forums are saying it is doing the push with gmail on the treo phone. The price is $40 so I will probably wait and see if G-Mail will begin supporting versamail. Personally I still like the java application Google created, however you have to install JVM on your phone. Best of luck Johnny!
Sorry, but no idea why it is crashing on send and receive. Mine is doing just fine, just no push.
Thanks for the Info... I will try your recommendations as I now have a great restore point on the device. You are right about the java app, it is better than Versamail, except if you want to use your Palm Address book. Now I can't say for the 755p but the java app flickers a lot on the 700p and I find the constant barrage of reaffirmations more than a little annoying. I also like the way that [7] is delete just like on my voice mail. That was very smart.
I don't know if I can try the Chattermail as I need Versamail MS Exchange push support in order to connect to my work mail as this is primarily why I have a Treo. But it's worth knowing that there is something else out there.

Hey, at least you have Gmail IMAP. There are some of us without it still.

i guess they have to come-out with POP4 and IMAPv5 to handle labels - as opposed to folder.

hmmmm I am still getting "The rest of the message could not be received. Please try again." At least it is not crashing the Treo.
Still thanks for the advice.
