Question for all: Does SpinRite (http://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm) recover old data from a hard drive if it's had Windows XP reinstalled?

from my understanding, spinrite is more for recovering bad sectors and attempting to make the data from those readable from a good sector. something like http://www.recovermyfiles.com/
is probably more along the lines of what you are looking for. It could be used in concert with Spinrite-have spinrite recovery the bad sectors first, then run the second to retrieve stuff from the broken file table. Success depends on just how bad off your hard drive is before running any of these.
