There are at least 3 musicians called Asa but the nearest I can get with Spotify is: spotify:artist:0upXUo04k4k8bGVSkmgrSc which conflates the Finnish rapper, the Swedish Jazz singer Åsa Rydman and the Yoruba soul singer whose real name is Bukola Elemid.
Last.fm has disambiguation pages: http://www.last.fm/music/Asa but they don't have unique identiers so their system is still 'broken.' If you gave each artist a unique identifier then users could use that to build playlists or searches that did what they meant.
Spotify on the other hand might find that cleaner data would lead to a better user experience (I'd be more willing to use Spotify for the soundtrack to a party if I was sure that the Finnish rapper wasn't going to interrupt the succession of signer-songwriters) which leads to more subscriptions which leads to more money.
Fair point, although last are building up to having that sort of incentive with the development of their subscription stuff. Still, I'm glad no one shares my artist name :)

the multiple artists name thing is confusing alright. Definitely feels last.fm should work out a better system for that

last.fm don't really have much incentive to clean up their data although being able to go to: http://www.last.fm/music/Asa/1 http://www.last.fm/music/Asa/2 to distinguish the artists would be nice.
