Oh lord, there's a lot of designers out there that create the whole "lolita" look and a lot of SLers that wear it. For example, here's a popular site for fashionistas in SL (I swear by it). http://closetcrisis.com/?p=128
I don't think it will effect those designers as far as business but they probably won't be too happy.
It is so wierd, do they want to develop the 3d internet and be the only operator of a search engine. If they open it up and let others operate the search engine they wouldn't have to worry about this stuff.
I imagine they are in "freaking out" mode from the publicity. Anything related to kiddie exploitation is black plague-like in the USA. It may seem irrational to expend the resources to filter, but it's one action they can take that has an immediate effect (perhaps not effective, however.)
I do wish they had done a bit more "setting the facts straight". There current path of reaction seems to send the message which says "Yes there was kiddy porn" when really there was not. There were consenting adults role playing roles that many may find objectionable, but is not illegal.
But the German tabloid TV had kiddie porn from those SL players and showed it to Robin and she was shocked and banned the accounts for that, that's on the record.
sigh
I am afraid that this is going to get a lot worse before it ever gets better. LL has their hands full with this latest scandal and let's not forget the impending investigation of online gambling. I logged in just last night (after a long hiatus) and was appalled at a lot of the changes that have taken place.

It's disturbing they are filtering at all. LL should have better things to do.

Prok, perhaps the Lindens are taking a cue from Boston on over-reacting?

The SL piece does make the pictures seem uncertain - appears to depict, but the ones they banned were not banned for rl pictures but for ageplay http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/05/09/accusations-regarding-child-pornography-in-second-life/

@wwward not getting the reference to Boston? All of this is reminding me of Lenny Bruce and Henry Miller. And Nabokov, for that matter!
