Are you asking about the python code or about how works the feature? just shows a small preview beside the user avatar and it's also linked to the original one (at flickr.com)

How the feature works; do you just add the URL of the flickr image to a jaiku?

no, AFAIK you can not post images directly in jaiku.com, only through a flickr rss feed (you should add one to your profile)
Doh, sorry, I didn't realize the feature was displaying the image from flickr rss feed, thanks for clarifying
