you can't talk about the future without understanding the past.

But telling a bunch of Finns about the history of SMS... This is not the place.

@viilee, good point: what are they talking about? What's the one year history of OVI? Or are they referring to Apple's iTune? How is this history written?

SMS leading to OVI? Comment to @vascellari: Every road leading to Rome! That's also true. Mythical marketing to make OVI more important?

@visualradio never under estimate the value of telling a story in marketing a product, be it a service or a gadget. But I have to admit you have to make it sound interesting, to get attention.

@viilee I think telling the history of something is only useful if it illuminates a concept with great relevance to the present/future. I have suffered through enough PP presentations that begin with "Our company was founded in 1979, in Boondocks, Finland. At that time, the company made breadsticks..."

@spongefile, Once upon the time there was a garage...somewhere, somehow we managed to get out of the woods with our message ;)

...or at least, in most cases, the history bit of your presentation should be limited to no more than 5-10% of it, if that. The climax shouldn't be "and then we made this product. The end."
