Everyone's got a different opinion on what context-sensitive internet is.

Showing Emacs running GNUS on screen. Cool.

Old internet, news and old email. Changes... "Not for normal people!"

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • samikki

Talking about non-userfriendliness of ancient times. Difficult email addresses. Internet looking like gnus.

"Not normal people using that" AHEM!

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • samikki

Talking about about birth of SMS.

    The famous story of SMS

is Jaiku back-channel conversation for normal people? ;)

1 year, 1 month ago by vascellari

  • matnel

@samikki: but is this "new" web better?

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • matnel

    @vascellari: Right on the spot!

SMS fulfilled a need that already existed. Ad-hoc asynchronous communication.

  • vascellari

    @matnel LOL!

  • samikki

Hehe, words of truth @vascellari :)

@matnel BTW where are you sitting?

Moving on... now showing the boomerang (Nokia 7110?).

Currently we're using active, participatory internet. That didn't exist before. Pohjakallio talks about 12-year daughter asking "what's HTML code for pink?". Internet is everywhere.

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • samikki

@vascellari yeah! I'm at extreme right and back of the room.

Story of 12 years old girl and HTML. Touching... I remember my first web pages which used frames and strange colors <3

Is there a new revolution going on? Are Apple Iphone users the alphas of the next change in the net usage?

"Exciting things rarely happen when you're on your PC" (agreed)

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • vascellari

@mantel ok... @suviko seems to be a nice social-landscape-citizen! Didn't meet here in the real world yet

1 year, 1 month ago by vascellari

  • matnel

Mobility is more natural? We really don't experience things nearby pcs.

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • samikki

When something exciting happens, you want to act on it immediately, not when you're next time using your computer.

We're early adopters and it's obvious to us.

But what about rest of the people? How do we bring this ubiqutous internet to them?

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • matnel

Telling story of Ovi. "Ovi is sync and backup" so truth!

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • samikki

Talks about Nokia doing lots of user studying. 12 billion data points of research. Interest of mobile/contextual internet has risen.

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • vascellari

I kind of have the feeling of where this conversation is taking us (him).... Access from mobile devices rather than PCs? Hehe...

1 year, 1 month ago by vascellari

  • matnel

    Two type of users.

    • fun & pleasure

    • solving problems

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • LizardEnigma

(Instead of experiencing things we document them. Weddings are a digital photography conferences. If a tree falls in a forest and nobody sands a jaiku about it, did it happen?)

1 year, 1 month ago by LizardEnigma

  • samikki

    Two types of users.

    • Fun-loving. I want it for fun and pleasure. Music, movies, funny videoclips, playing.
    • Solution seekers. Looking for utility.

Talking about wife giving quite a n00b impression of her. :-/

Circling about the main thing: Making services and tools usable to everyday ordinary users.

Showing a picture of N85. (Is that an apex of usability?)

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • samikki

There are lots of mobile devices around (abt. 900M). Massive populations. Internet is everyday life for them.

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • matnel

@samikki: usability & experience is a major topic as you can see

Will there be technology here :)

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • samikki

There is no such thing as mobile internet. There's the internet with tools and services we use.

    • It's about people. Blending physical and virtual world. Teenagers have virtual friends that are just as real as real people (sounds like Jaiku LOL)

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • LizardEnigma

    People = Young beautiful women

1 year, 1 month ago by LizardEnigma

  • samikki

@matnel well the user experience is the core of things ;) (me being UX specialist and all ;)

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • samikki

Facebook again. Connecting with people and long-lost friends. But Pohjakallio connects only to people he doesn't know IRL.

Facebook logic is reverse to ordinary: which is private? people or applications?

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • matnel

"Connecting people with sms, call is so 90s. We need to contact also with IM..."

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • LizardEnigma

Media = music on large headphones (or maybe graffiti)

1 year, 1 month ago by LizardEnigma

  • samikki

    • It's about media. Everything's gone digital. A guy who's bought one CD during his life, but has 80 gigabytes of music.

How does it apply to old geezers? They find new music via online services.

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • samikki

    • It's about innovating. Business models where developers actually earn money. Admires iphone and app store: executed well.

When the ecosystem is right, we're going to see MUCH more innovation.

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • LizardEnigma

Innovating = ...maps? Places = maps Are we heading towards a presentation of Nokia maps? :)

1 year, 1 month ago by LizardEnigma

  • matnel

"We claimed that there is mobile internet. There isn't"

    "Requirements"

    • People; social connections. Different type of contacts

    • Media; media is digital (case closed). This + previous bullet = social media (:

    • Innovation: 3rd parties are needed and developers need to get something back also. Ecosystem is critical and thanks to Apple.

    • Places: location matter

    => Mash everything up!

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • samikki

    • It's about places. Maps and navigation is what's being used today. And also cell tower based navigation.

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • samikki

(and it's about walls with graffiti scribbled on them. aargh)

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

Services are in all domains: mobile, pc and web etc.!

    Volumes are important!

Story about a woman living in northern Sweden making lots of money by finding out about the Internet. Location independence.

(unfortunately that doesn't apply to Finland - over here everything must happen in Helsinki)

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • matnel

    4W's

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • LizardEnigma

(If one looks at the hip and cool photos used by Nokia, one might think that Nokia would publicly oppose the zero tolerance towards graffiti in Helsinki.)

1 year, 1 month ago by LizardEnigma

  • samikki

Four W's again: Who, Where, When, What. Context, relevancy.

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • samikki

Four services that build on context.

    • Arriving on time
    • Discovering and sharing places
    • Recording life
    • Staying close to friends

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • LizardEnigma

On blogging: "I have nothing interesting to say."

I doubt that. Why would he be on the podium if he had nothing to say?

1 year, 1 month ago by LizardEnigma

  • samikki

(I suddenly got a flashback to 1999 where every user scenario involved a businessman at airport)

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • matnel

    How to get Web2.0 open?

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • matnel

    @LizardEnigma: ask it now :)

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • samikki

Web2.0 will obviously make the world a better place.

1 year, 1 month ago by samikki

  • matnel

Openess.. Don't know whether there was a good answer if Ovi-ecosystem will be open.

1 year, 1 month ago by matnel

  • matnel

Music and Ovi: "I wont tell our product plans". Ovi will be open platform Ovi is a brand, and services in Ovi needs to be worth of the word Ovi.

Ovi is a brand! When? Now? Services need to be worth of the word OVI. YouTube is a brand and you can find anything between heaven and hell. Are they going to moderate the content?
