These aren't email notifications I don't think. They're gmail telling me jaiku is talking to my gtalk account when I'm offline.

Are you using gtalk as your jabber server?

Ah that would explain why you don't experience it. This is a feature specific to gtalk and gmail integration

This is still happening - and it's going to stop me using jaiku at all...

Probably a server-to-server outage that caused the bot to miss the offline presence.

And more technically, one day Jabber servers will implement the Advanced Message Processing (AMP) specification so that bots can detect something like this happening.
