yes. It can actually be quite annoying at times, but easy to fix.

Hmm, I /want/ it to notify, but I'm not sure it is. Re. the fix, is there a setting then?

Looks like you're able to unsubscribe from an individual feed on a channel by visiting the channel and hitting "Unsubscribe" for the feed.

IIRC, if you "unsubscribe" from the feed, then it doesn't generate notifications. Is the feed showing up on the home page?
Aha.... I didn't notice that link :)
Is there any way to unsubscribe from comments on items? (so that you'd get initial posts, but not the whole conversation)

I just wondered that same thing now :)
@normanr: Not as far as I know.
If you don't comment on the item, then I believe you only see the comments of the people on your friend's list. (I believe)
Hmm, then normanr shouldn't have seen this? :)
@MattJ: I have normanr in my contact list ;-)
Ahaaaa... :D
still, once you've commented there's no way to run away :-P
delete your comment, cancel your account, block jaiku. :)
heh, run-a-little-bit-away :-P
If your jabber server allows it, set up a message filter to block those packets...
still want all other notifications, just optionally no more of comments on jaiku's I've commented on, and/or comments on jaiku's of users/channels I'm subscribed to
allowing commands such as "stop 16595107" would be a nice addition. (stopping this thread)
You mean "leave", but yes, I use the web interface mostly, so I'd want to see an 'leave conversation' link somewhere.
I never post using jabber except by accident because I'm afraid I'll mess it up. (trying now)
I post only via Jabber :)
