@atmasphere: That's what I read about Twitter too. But I've never seen any figures re: Jaiku. I wonder how far behind Twitter it is.

I think it's fair to say* that we're probably behind on numbers, but ahead on quality of community :)

Actual numbers are one of those commercially sensitive things. I don't even look them up, so when people ask me this question I can legitimately say "I don't know" :)

[* hopefully saying this much won't get me smacked over the wrist too hard]

According to TwitDir, there are 438 610 Twitter users right now, which means this is still mostly a "geek-targeted" service. @malach, I know you can't really tell and you don't know the exact answer anyways, but I'd still love to know about Jaiku... ;-)

Well, I'd love to tell you, but I just don't know (see above) :)

There's also a world of difference between 'number of accounts created' and 'number of active users' (and let's not even get into how you define 'active') - this probably applies equally to both us and Twitter.

@malach I totally agree: many, many Twitter accounts haven't been used for months. A lot of people seemed to sign up, post a couple of updates, and never sign in again...

It's a month old now, but you might find some of my stats interesting.

As Malach already said, active is kind hard to establish. For example, we have users that post very little, but have the Jaiku mobile app running all the time, sending availability and location data all day.

@RickMeasham Very interesting stuff there. If Jaiku is still in the tens of thousands, it's lagging pretty far behind Twitter. Is this only due to a better take off, or are there deeper reasons?

Are there any active user figures / segmentations from today? This thread is more than 2 years old and a lot has happened. (Still think Jaiku is the best open microblog platform for dialogue after some time in Twitter exile)

@lind: I truly believe that Qaiku has more active users (from the Finland-community) and is more actively developed. It is sad to see, but even @jyri is more active on Twitter than Jaiku.

@alexz I do not get it?! For this type of communications Twitter i worthless. Note: I like Twitter for:

    • "table tennis communication"
    • push and
    • mingle.

But deeper dialogue you need a totally different platform. Seems like everyone, at least the Swedish community, agree on this but still everyone's on Twitter.

How come? Is it the sign of a two dimensional fast culture? Or do the "community" regard Twitter as a fastline for in-depth blogging on separate blog's. But not everyone blog
