Well, I knew this day would come, but not quite so soon. (More in comments...)

I had heard that telepathy-haze was being ported to the Maemo platform. It basically brings libpurple to telepathy, basically giving you the functionality of Pidgin in the built-in IM client on the tablets - an ideal solution.

Well, RTCOMM has released an update (perhaps I'm the last to know about it) that allows you to use telepathy-haze on your tablet now. I'm about to try it out myself.

If this ends up being as good as I hope, it would basically render Jablet unneeded. While I knew it would eventually happen, I'm quite surprised that it was this soon and by Nokia themselves. So, as you can imagine, I'm both overjoyed to see this functionality hitting the tablets and a little saddened that our little project won't be needed anymore.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do next. We'll see.

I'll post a little review about the update as soon as I'm done trying it out myself.

    Hi Jay,

no matter what you and Texrat did a great job on Jablet and showed the way. And I for one have been grateful for this opportunity to integrate all my IM into the native tablet application.

    Thanks!

I'd like to think that the sudden popularity of Jablet helped show Nokia that having everything integrated was a killer feature we all wanted.

Thanks for being a part of it, Morten.

Is this going to be a part of the next maemo update? If not, jablet will still serve a purpose for some time!

I don't know if it's meant to be beta. I would imagine it's for the next major firmware update... but who knows. Until that happens, Jablet will be there.

Hey, we'll find a reason for continued existence! Surely.

Yeah, I don't think you should start shutting down Jablet just yet. Nokia's track record with their 1.0 products/features is as bad as Microsoft's. Until users can reliably and consistently connect using the telepathy+libpurple solution, we'll need Jablet.

No, no... I am not planning on shutting anything down at all yet. There are some things that are not implemented such as adding new buddies anyways.

People will still need some sort of IM server, though, even with the tablet client improvements-- right? So why don't we focus on being THE service of choice for tablet users? I think we're well-positioned for that, and 400 users is a good testament!

I also suggest we solicit ideas via the jablet (and/or itT) forum. Let users tell us what's missing that one or more of us may be able to provide.

Of course, I realize this means getting the actual site up to snuff [embarassed emoticon here]. As I noted previously I'm intending to dedicate some serious time to implementing the css stuff I've been toying with. Along those lines, anyone know what state the php-based registration form is in?

still seems like beta -- you have to enable red pill to install -- and the focus is on the transports not additional services for tablets. Have yet to install but saw the broader release announcement today

I commented on ITT with this, but... Jablet is still very needed for anyone who must bypass any workplace firewalls for IM.

That right there likely explains the 400 users in such a short time! Thanks Tim.
