Doug Engelbart made a load of contributions but his best and most productive contribution is when he set up his own research lab, the Augmentation Research Center. The center was responsible for the creation of the mouse.
his development of the hyperlink, because without the hyperlink, we would not be able to "surf" the web; the hyperlink is the basis on which we surf, that is, clicking from page to page.
I consider the mouse to be by far his most important inventions simply because it has endured the test of time and remained virtually unchanged right up to the present day.
I find the invention of the mouse to be his most important invention because it has been in use ever since he created it and also because it gives us more ease when using our computers by allowing us to click on any part of the screen with speed and ease.
I believe this would have to be the mouse. I picked this one because the mouse saves us time when we are using the computer, ie when we are editing text we can just click to the postion of the text we want to edit, and its easy to use.
Although computing as we know it couldn’t exist with out the mouse, the mouse wouldn’t be needed without the GUI. Even though there wasn’t one ‘inventor’ of the GUI, because of Engelbarts innovations, he is now deemed “The Father of the GUI”. I think this is his most valuable innovation because without it, everyone would still be using a DOS like set-up which requires you to remember commands etc;
I think his most valuable innovation would be the the mouse as while he is the father of the gui the gui would be very different to what we know it today without the ability to point and click wherever we wish
Its true that the mouse hypertext and GUI's are all excellent innovations in their own right but i think that it is the sum of all these things and others that were developed at the The Augmentation Research Centre which is the true great achievement of Engelbart.. it shows in the huge infulence they had in the way we interface with digital media today..
I think that two of his most important inventions would have to be the mouse, and the hyper link. Without the mouse, we would be much mor elimited and word processing woud take much longer if one had to go through text character by character, with the mouse its much easier and quicker to get to where you need to go in a text document. The hyper link was hugely important, because even when he was just linking to different parts of the same document, it was such a huge idea and advancement, that eventually led to the internet tody as we know it, with multible links and fat links, so thats why i think that it was so important.

In my opinion Doug Englebart's innovation cut and paste was one of the most important because it saves time.
