Oh yes that's definitely one thing I'd love to have. I've been complaining that the current limited mobile bandwidth restricts the potential for growth for mobile applications
Heh 'affordable' is relative I guess. But that seems to be targetted more for PCs/Laptops on the go more than mobile handsets.. I'd rather my 'mobile broadband' take place on my mobile than on my laptop heh
Japan is ahead of us due to two main reasons:
1. Business model for content providers
2. The quality of services and handsets. The operators force all providers to deliver perfectly and all hand sets are tested to a degree that is almost insane.
Othewise the Japanese do not commute more than us, they aren't that different in a sociologocal or cultural way.
Isn't there a risk, though, that i-mode turns out to be the Minitel of Japan? When real Internet services catch on in the rest of the world, will Japan move on from i-mode services quickly enough?
Hmm Japanese High school girls....that's the answer. They're funky and they are the ones who create the demand for next generation mobile technology. :)

Well Singapore telcos tried to bring in iMode awhile back though, but that didn't seem to take off that well
