Oh sorry guys, I installed Akismet to try and stop spam comments but I dunno why it should be emailing you guys. It's supposed to email me, bloody hell. Doh!
I just don't want a third party own my comments and their delivery system. What's the point of running your own site if you then start to outsource all kinds of crap?
@fabsh: i see where you coming from. A few things to consider: *a - disqus can help stop spamming, *b - you get control over the comments just like normal. *c - it also helps create a community of commenting, thus linking your blog to other blogs your same users may comment on, multi-interaction between blogs of common or uncommon genre's.
Yes, I get the benefits. But having just done an interview with Bradley Kuhn where we talked about the fact that the biggest danger in all this web 2.0 / cloud computing stuff are closed, proprietary systems like these I'm just not comfortable with it. What happens when they close up shop or decide they want to start "monetising" your content? I rather go to the trouble of taking care of my spam myself.
@fabsh: Personally speaking, I don't like to deal with spam, I don't even want to see it, if a service does that for me, then I'll be happy. I think you have to make the choice yourself, whether you want the added benefits that come with a risk, or taking the hassle of it all by yourself and not having any danger of losing your content.
We're getting about 50 automated spam comments a day and I've just been ignoring them, now that I want people to be able to comment properly and not have to fish through 40 pages looking for genuine comments. I'm not doing it by hand, took me 2 hours just to work trough a few pages so I want a program to recognise that a comment which says viagra 50 times and is just a bunch of URLs can be deleted automatically. It shouldn't be emailing everyone to moderate them pah!
Sorted it, Akismet is doing it's job fine and recognising the spam comments, that's all I want it to do. Saves me the job but I didn't realise email notifications went to all users of the site, that's a whole new kind of spam.

Seems like a good day for spammers.

Hehehehe yeah but it's Akismet sending confirmations emails not actual spammers, it hasn't sent many so I'll try and fix it in the morning

Well, it's Dan's site. Personally, I think outsourcing your blog comments to a third party is a very bad idea...
