Apple security update 2007-009 definitely renders Jaiku ineffective on any browser and Mac OSX 10.5.1. Did clean reinstall and then update.

The update fixes security flaws that allows urls embedded in Quicklook, video files, flash and shockwave to be activated giving access to private date on the affected mac. Details here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307179 I can reproduce the problem. Eliminate that update and the badge is okay. Reinstall the update the badge no longer functions.

The security update works against the main function of the Jaiku badge which is to provide links to the relevant feed.

Wow. The only good thing you can say about MS is that they test their patches very thoroughly. Apple on the other hand seems to just throw them out there...

Thanks for the replies everybody. How are you all? I live in Wollongong NSW Australia. My jaiku badge is here http://www.larkin.net.au/

It was probably myself that mentioned it earlier a few weeks back. I had noticed a number of additional browser problems lately so I reformatted my mac after attempts to solve the issues failed and so I did a clean reinstall. Performed the software updates step by step.

All was fine up until that Security Update. The badge no longer worked. The badge still showed updates, had scroll and mouseover functions but none of the embedded links work. How many macs have the same problem I wonder? I think the badge is a very useful tool. It is like a "What's new?" for all my feeds.

    Cheers, John

Hey, mate! Wollongong? Been through there a few times... You're not a beachcomber by any chance? :D

so i guess a JS badge is in order. should be possible, especially with the new cross domain JS 'hacks' now in the wild.

This is due to changes in the security model in the new Flash 9,0,115,0 which is distributed along with the latest Apple security updates.
