What was to be a short time off break took me to Europe in '72. I will sumit an open artical of this adventure that will recall how over a two month period my life touched......
the '72 Munich Olympics bloodbath, rides down the autobann in a stolen BMW m3, hash houses in Amsterdam, a queer (homosexual) Greek boat owner, how I cooked for an Italian Count, and Ouzo by the bottle. What a lot can happen in a short time.
A holiday would definatly take me back to Rhodes. This Greek Island has more to offer than theother surrounding islands. Rhodes town is situated in the north side of the Island and this is where the old medievil town is situated. The old town, as it is known, has original medievil buildings and is surrounded by a massive wall and moats. This is a must see as it is drenched in culture.
There is also the gods Apollo and Athena's Acropolis(which means highest part). These are Temples to the gods and are situated north and south of the Island respectively. They are a sight to behold, and overlook the towns in which they are built.
There are many churches to see. These are magnificent inside and out and are definatly worth a visit, but be warned there are no cameras allowed inside.
The poeple are extreemly friendly and the Island is very clean. The food is good and cheap and the portions are massive. Try the greek dishes, you wont be dissapointed.
Overall I would go back to Rhodes in a flash and would strongly recommend visiting this wonderfull Greek Island to anyone.
I would go to London as I sometimes miss the buzz that London has to offer. I would go on all day shopping spree to Oxford Street. I would indulge in shop after shop listing to the many different sounds and voice. The smells of the busy street’s with the different cuisine that London has to offer.
I would also visit all the wonderful museums the Natural History being the first I would like to visit with all the dinosaur's bones. The science Museum would be a close second, with all the gadgets to poke and prod hours of fun!
For a cultural day, I would make my way to the National Gallery and experience the arts from around the world. After a morning of beautiful things, I would make my way to Covent Garden to eat an Italian lunch of pizza and pasta and a glass of crisp white wine.
The Royal Opera house would be must see! I would spoil myself with the ballet "Romeo and Juliet".
I would soak up what London has to offer the many different cultures and people. I would enjoy the bright lights of London, along with the hustle and bustle of one of the world’s largest city.
Before I returned home to Ireland - I'm lucky I have Ireland and England as my home- I would go dancing all night I would try to hit every dance spot I knew and dance till my feet went numb. When I could dance, no more I would walk London's quite streets enjoying the quite street’s (Do not do this on your own).
London offers a wide range of entertainment and is a city full of different cultures races and religions and many wonderful experiences if you know where to look!
One more place well worth a visit is Camden Market full of many wonderful people and a treasure trove of jewels...........................
I went to Hawaii last year and it's the best time that I ever had. Thinking of moving there when I finish my degree.
I'm also learning to surf and it's the maddest thing to do because I have no balance to start with, this is the main thing that you need when you are surfing.
Will get there in the end hopefully(Hawaii and Surfing).
One of the best things I have ever done is to walk shoulder-high in Hanauma Bay with a snorkel, counting dozens of colourful fish in really warm water. Blissful. Try that in the Irish Sea.
The ability to unwind from our everyday existence surely can be be found on our shores at the beautiful and breathtaken Killarney Lakes. Ladies View is probably the most spectacular view of all the lakes. In the 1860s Queen Victoria's Ladies-in-waiting decided that the view from the hill just above was "the finest in the land" - hence "Ladies View". If you are to visit the lakes be sure to take the horse drawn carriage trip as you get the sense of what is was like to travel in the period before the so called mechanical transport.
I went on the Tower of Terror in Disneyland Florida and it was a terrifying experience, it is based on the Twilight Zone and you tour this old house full of ghosts which eventually leads you to a broken elevator. this is the climax of the tour as the elevator goes into freefall and you are looking out over the entire park.
What an experience. Try that on the ghost train in Tramore.
When I was in Hawaii they were still trying to get the bay cleaned out because of the polution that was caused over the years, plus the amount of visitors that go to see it each year. As far as I know it is now a nature reserve. Marine life rocks.
I just came back from a short break. Prague is one of the nicest places that I have every been to. The people are extremely friendly, the food is delicious and the city has amazing sculptures. The beer is also very cheap at 1 euro a pint. Go and enjoy the beautiful city.
