Well as you know I'm NOT a muscian, just check Last.fm for proof ;-) - but you know, I just downloaded some open and free music software, that I expect to be lean and mean, for instance some synthesizer software, so let's see, and why don't me get together and create a better Logic than Logic? It WILL happen...
Well, it might happen, but not anytime soon. The software is not the only problem. It seems like the biggest problem is the drivers for the hardware I use. I like OS X and will not switch anytime soon.
Flash works fine, the first YouTube video I saw was Kate Bush, and on Last.fm I just found Paco de Lucia for my father...He can get it from netmusik.dk, but guess what, I can't because they're using the "criminal" technology called WIndows Media Player...
Its going to happen.. yes! GIMP is propably the first one, according to the mock ups i've seen.. find a good music player, find a good replacement app for iPhoto and your luck is down
mifcan - because of Ramadan? It is pretty awesome...But as expected Apple does a few things better:
The sleep function - nobody besides Apple has managed to make that work :-( - it is my number one feature on my PowerBook, so I'll miss it dearly - I hope the community is on it
The keyboard is good, probably better than the PowerBook, but it's also noisy
It not exactly beautiful, but I dare put stickers on it, so it will look much more personal, what happened to those "Nabaztag stickers? Did we get some?
But in general Ubuntu with Gnome is actually very Mac OS X like, and it's useful, especially compared to the cludge Vista. Vista is simply unusable out of the box, Microsoft should return to Windows 2000 - bring back Cutler!
haha - just realising that this is a intl' thread, sorry for the pastry (!) in my last post :-D
Like the other day, watching a movie on channel SV1 (swede-TV) and the kids asked me to translate the subtitles ... wtf? hadn't noticed it was in swedish ;-)
First major thorns...DVD playback - just didn't work - and then I went to VideoLAN.org to download VLC, only to discover the "superiour" method of installing software on Linux, instead of downloading using a simple link, that is build in - OMG a packagemanager...Come on, let's call it a software installer. Anyway VLC sort of did the trick, but I had to do some magic, and I sometimes got a black screen, audio playback worked perfectly.
This only goes to show that the Microsoft vs. EU verdict is needed, because of the monopolistic nature of the entertainment industry and the major software companies (Microsoft and Apple), it's actually ILLEGAL to playback DVDs on a Linux computer, thus it doesn't work, and as we all know this is one of the number applications of a laptop computer - just walk down an Intercity Train on a Sunday night to see that for yourself.
After this major pain, I was a bit weary about what would happen when I connected my camera, but it just popped up a camera deceted dialog, and imported into the filesystem, and opened an OK viewer. Camera support is at least on a par with Windows, of course it isn't iPhoto, but it works.
Great! Just discovered the Sleep function in the shutdown menu, and it works like on a Mac, now he it would only integrate with the hardware.. So that it would go into sleep mode when I close the lie. I'm sure it's just a setting, haven found it yet though. I also tried the XML/(X)HTML editor Screem, and I love it. But the KEWLest thing is the screenssavers. It gave of an opportunity to talk Linux wit a VERY curious train steward, he say the molecule screensaver, it was displaying a model of Viagra :-)
It seems that the problem with the DVD playback using the Totem - which is great - and VLC players was related to having the desktop effects enabled - they weren't that useful anyway. Watching Borat from DVD and it works great. When you first start Totem it prompts you to download a digital media playback codec, and you have to agree that you're not violating any international treaties, that using the media (DVD, MPEG) playback is legal in your country, or that you'll only use it for "research purposes" - completely crazy...
Two more snags - this time major...The Wireless support is unstable...I had the same problem with Windows computers on my network...I think that a really old router with onlyt 802.11b support could be part of the problem. Another problem/challenge, is that the screen-switch buttons doesn't work, meaning that I can't have both an external screen and the internal screen running at the same time, and it's determined at boot time based on whether or not an external screen is attatched...
thanks for the tip, had forgotten about that - how do I turn on "that font rendering" - and I'm actually documenting my experiences here - it will take a while before I go into solution mode - and when I do...I think I'll ask newbie questions in Linux fora, being as "annoying" as the Macnyt users - prompting them to drop out of the legacy "technology" called fora to create wikis instead ;-)
You know...For now I'll just go back to Apple...Playing with Ubuntu is hurting my productivty...But no worries: "I'll be back"...This is what I plan to do.

@kimbach: hmm, only Nabaztag pins - maybe a bit rough, to penetrate the case :-D
And yes, can perfectly understand the Mac standby feature - it IS the BEST
How about Ubuntu stickers - that you must have already?

@kimbach: men, skal jeg så satse på at købe din Lenovo når du er træt af den - eller skal jeg finde min egen (alligevel) ?
