APIs hatching

jaikuegg.jpgWe’re still putting the finishing touches on the APIs but you can already check out the developer site at devku.org.

There are a couple of cool projects already out for Mac OSX. Jaiku Growler allows you to receive alerts from Growl whenever you or any of your Jaiku contacts post a new Jaiku. There’s also a Quicksilver script that lets you post Jaikus directly from Quicksilver.

Happy Easter everyone!

Now I know why you were blowing eggs this morning, not for Easter and the kids (Well not only), but for us :P

How about some cool gadgets for Windows. I know it’s cool to hate Win, but a lot of us still have to use it.

The QuickSilver script is awesome! It also needs a plazes account and the plazer to work properly. (Well, there is a plazeless version too but it doesn’t let you to change the location.) Get it here: http://beta.plazes.com/locate/plazer.php

A small thing, but would like the ability to collapse comments if they’re from one of my posts when viewing My jaikus.

  6. lifestreamblog.com » Blog Archive » Thoughts on Twitter vs. Jaiku and the Evolution of Blogging Says:

[…] This takes me to my thoughts on the evolution of blogging based around the concept of these two services. I think in the near future we are in store for more vertical niche based service sites like these to be released with robust feature sets accessible via API. I think you will start to see a shift in blogging platforms using tools that access the API’s of these new services to power blogs. I think a shift is currently occurring where you already see many people opting to use widgets instead of platform specific plugins. Along with the development community releasing great tools that seamlessly integrate the functionality and content from these external sites, it would appear to be the next progression blogging. Come to think of it, looking at the plugins used for my blog yields ones specific for utilizing functionality from third party sites Twitter, Google Analytics, MyBlogLog, Divshare, BF2S.com, Flickr, Adsense, Amazon, and Technorati. So perhaps the future is now. Here’s hoping that with the recent release of the Jaiku API that a Wordpress plugin will be available soon. […]

Great, this was a missing piece enabling me to start switching away from Twitter.

It would be great to have the source of a Jaiku message available in easily machine readable format in the feeds. That way I could import only the short messages to my blog status messages and not things that I already have there like regular RSS item titles or Flickr photos.

If you go to api.jaiku.com without signing in you get offered an API access code…

  9. Richard Says:

The api doesn’t seem to allow you to post a comments… just new jaikus… hopefully a second command, or an extension to the first, will be created. That way, we can make fully-functional jaiku frontends for things like blackberrys and desktops.

[…] Much is going on, but here we hear Dodgeballers are leaving…why? In my opinion you might have Google who has developed more of a sweetspot for Twitter…(not to mention the smack down on Double Click granted MSFT doesn’t throw in a legal tackle with anti-trust- huh?)…ok I am not counting out Jaiku (now hatching an API), but I dunno…at least the banner might come back…back! It would be cool to have a RSS feed not including other RSS feeds (Blogger, Last.fm,Twitter and others) just containing posted messages and maybe comments.

  12. Jyri Says:

Ian Yorston: Thanks for the report. http://api.jaiku.com no longer offers a phantom API access code when you’re logged out. You must sign in to view your code.
