The Leo Effect

We’ve been getting a lot more traffic since Leo Laporte announced on his blog he’d moved to Jaiku. We’ve speeded up the site today and we’ll continue working to improve response times - but it’ll take a few days to install more servers. If the traffic keeps growing, the site may respond slower than normally until we’re upgraded. We’ll keep you up to date on how the server situation develops.

Sorry Jyri - if I had known I would have warned you. And I would have waited until after Easter!

I have to say that now that I’m using Jaiku, I love it. I’m very happy about making the transition from TW*tter.

  2. Dan Says:

    owned.

  3. BigFreaky Says:

thats why I’m here…Leo showed me the way.. Site is looking pretty nice. Unfortunately I am on vacation and the wireless provided by the motel is not so hot…

  4. Mike_B Says:

I got an invite from Leo this morning (like 5:15 AM California time). I knew this was going to be bad news for this server…

  5. SLam Says:

    Good job, Jyri and Leo.

  6. Ioannus de Verani Says:

Yeah, I first looked into Jaiku when Leo switched. I am liking it a lot and may ditch Twitter, but I am not sure yet.

  7. Greg Says:

    Twitter RIP

  8. HeyDriver Says:

I’m sure that jaiku will catch up with the traffic…had to try to join a few times before it’d take

  9. Phlegon Says:

With Leo’s endorsements via Twitter, I just signed up here to reserve my usual handle and explore a bit. The site is so much nicer, and the additional features sound so interesting, I just might switch.

  10. HeavyLight Says:

It’s not just Leo who’s recommending Jaiku — Ewan at http://www.smstextnews.com/ is doing his bit!
    :-)
    Nice app.
Now all I need is an S60 mobile or the promised java version…

  11. Cristiano Says:

Whohoo! Leo converted! I am so happy, because I was sending him emails and bookmarks since a couple of weeks and he just KEPT going on about Tw*tter.

  12. Ry. Says:

Would this possibly also be causing the activation process with my cell phone to take forever? I have sent a few activation codes to my phone through Jaiku, but have yet to recieve any of them. I think I started a few hours ago.

If so, it’s cool. =) Understandable entirely.

guess this is as good place as any to make my first post. even if it doesn’t say anything. but i AM eating lunch now. 4-cheese pizza. and i just scratched somewhere. cleared my throat. then again. looked at my watch. isn’t this exciting! i just hope it doesn’t cause an intl sms charge, somehow. blah blah… and so on, and so it goes…

  14. DC Says:

This is so fascinating. Just a reminder of how quickly things change. And the power of Leo. My head is still spinning…

  15. Joe Philipson Says:

Leo is the leader of the TWiT army. Where he goes, I follow.

  16. Corvida Says:

Definitely here because of Leo’s article. With his article to give me the courage and the beauty of this website (both inside and out) I joined and I’m happy I did!

[…] The highly regarded Leo Laporte has switched to Jaiku — a Twitter copy-cat — and a lot of people are following him. But Jaiku looks really, really smooth to me and is definitely worth a test. :) […]

  18. Mike Says:

lol … speeded … you mean sped?

  19. Dan Says:

Yep. it’s the TwiT army on the digial march.

  20. Lee Says:

I found this via Leo too. Looking forward to making friends and exploring Jaiku.

  21. Webstuff: Twitter and Jaiku : KJToo Says:

[…] I signed up for a Twitter account in late February after hearing about the service on the technology podcast This Week in Tech (coincidentally known as TWiT). A couple of days ago, Leo Laporte — the head TWiT and probably the most friended person on Twitter — announced on his blog that he was switching from Twitter to Jaiku in an effort to create distance and distinction between the TWiT podcast and the Twitter service, which are unrelated. The announcement resulted in “The Leo Effect”, a wave of new account signups at Jaiku. […]

Never discount the power of the twit army!

  26. Elisa Says:

I have to admit, I came to sign up because Leo kept mentioning Jaiku and talked about it on Buzz Out Loud as well. So far I’m liking what I’m seeing. Keep up the great work!

  27. Leighton Cooke Says:

One more Leo signed up. Me!

  28. centy Says:

I am also a leo zombie, I install what he says.
I don’t mind being part of a wave of people that discover a new site by word of mouth, it’s not as if I would have ended up here accidently by jabbing random letters into the address bar.
Well I might have actually, jaiku is a strange name.
