Animated map goodness

map2.jpgWe launched a minor new release of the Web site today. It includes performance improvements and a bunch of small cosmetic fixes.

There’s also now a new, nifty animated map on the jaiku.com front page that displays the latest public Jaikus from people around the world. (If you are currently signed in, you need to sign out first to see the map).

The map looks for country names so if you want your Jaikus to show up, add your country to your location in the sidebar when you’re signed in.

Welcome to the new Jaiku!

Jaiku_S603rdEd.jpgWe’re launching a new release of Jaiku today at O’Reilly Emerging Telephony 2007 in San Francisco.

The Web site at www.jaiku.com now shines with a new design, and the much-awaited Jaiku Mobile Beta for Nokia S60 3rd Edition phones is also available for free download as of today.

In addition to just savoring the new look and feel on jaiku.com, you can now:

  • Browse your friends’ contacts, so you can more easily discover new people
  • Subscribe to selected feeds from a contact, so you can filter out any irrelevant content get only the updates you want to follow
  • Customize your background, so you can design your Jaiku to reflect your style
  • Receive updates pre-grouped, so your contacts don’t flood your Overview if they post multiple photos, bookmark a whole bunch of Web pages, or listen to a lot of music

The new Jaiku Mobile Beta brings your phone’s contact list to life. The main features are:

  • The live contact list works just like your phone’s built-in phonebook, and enhances the list with the buddy icons and real-time presence of your Jaiku contacts
  • Post new Jaikus and have them immediately appear on the Web and your contacts’ phones
  • Share your availability based on your phone’s ring profile
  • Share your location based on free naming of cell towers
  • Option to share your phone calendar (choose to share full titles of events or just when you are free/busy)
  • Option to share number of nearby people based on detection of Bluetooth phones
  • Switch Jaiku online or offline at any time
  • Easy wizard guides you through the setup
  • Automatic roaming detection alerts you when you are roaming away from your home network
  • Improved battery life gives you more standby time (for best results we recommend switching your phone to 2G mode).

Here’s a list of the supported phone models. If your phone is not on the list, stay tuned: we’re experimenting with some cool new SMS functionality, and we’ll also be releasing a Java edition of Jaiku Mobile soon.

Give it a go! And of course of course of course, feel free to let us know what works and where there’s still room for improvement.
