New build available with fixes for 6630, 6680
July 17th, 2006
Thanks to everyone who has emailed us or commented on the blog! We’ve now fixed the problem that caused Jaiku Contacts to not always start properly on 6630, 6680 and other S60 2nd edition Feature Pack 2 phones. If you had problems starting Jaiku Contacts on these phones, sign in and download the latest version of your personalized client. If you want to check out the application without registering for the service, you can download the latest generic client from http://www.jaiku.com/download.
(For the more technically minded: we have to use a different UID for Jaiku Contacts on the emulator from the one on the phone - something had changed in my build environment when switching laptops and the emulator UID got used for the AIF file - which only FP2 seemed to care about, the application ran fine on a 6600 and an N70).

I’m running n70 with fw 5.0616.2.0.3 24-4-06. I had to exit the program and restart it before it launched the Jaiku contact vs the regular contacts.

Any project for a S60 3rd edition version in the (near) future?
Also, can you select which pieces of informations you want to broadcast?
I mean, I might not want to let other people know which phone profile I have selected or what my upcoming calendar events are, for instance, so can you send only part of that data to the server?
This might come in handy as well if you’re connecting from abroad and want to reduce the roaming charges, for instance, or in your own country if you don’t have an unlimited data plan…

Patrick Robbe: Indeed we are planning to make a S60 Third Edition client. We’ll post more about this on the blog as soon as we’re able to be more specific :) We’re also working on an interface where you can control what information you want to share.

Great idea!
But I can’t test your app with 100% because I don’t have friends with S60 phones :)

christophe: Jaiku will have a Nokia N80 client. This is the “S60 Third Edition client” Jyri is writing about above.

Eoin Dubsky: At the moment, we are focusing on improving the current client and implementing the S60 3rd Edition client. However, we don’t want to limit the service to S60 owners and are therefore working on ways for enabling all mobile users to use Jaiku. Most likely we’ll implement some handset-independent features (based on e.g. SMS) in addition to the handset-specific clients. We will post about more detailed plans quite soon.
